What the Advice Is

Everything here is general horticultural information, published for people growing plants at home. It is not professional consultancy, and it is not veterinary or medical advice. Plants behave differently in different homes, so treat any interval, temperature or measurement on this site as a starting point to adjust from and not an instruction that holds everywhere.

Care guides cite their sources, generally university extension services and botanic gardens. Where the sources disagree, the pages say so. Where no authoritative source publishes a figure at all, the pages say that too, and anything presented as an estimate is an estimate.

Toxicity and Safety Information

Pet and child safety listings on this site are drawn from the ASPCA and from university extension sources, and they describe a species in general terms. They cannot tell you how a particular animal will react, how much was eaten, or how serious a given case is.

They can also be wrong. Listings are entered by hand from published sources, a species entry does not always hold for every cultivar sold under that name, and sources sometimes disagree with each other. Errors have been found on this site and corrected, and more probably remain. Check the ASPCA listing directly before bringing any plant into a house with an animal that chews leaves.

The direction of an error matters. A plant wrongly marked toxic costs you a plant you might have enjoyed. A plant wrongly marked safe is the one that can hurt an animal, so a safe badge is not permission to stop checking.

If a pet or a child has eaten part of a plant, do not use this site to decide what to do. Contact a vet, a doctor, or a poison control service immediately. Nothing here is a substitute for that call, and a page describing a plant as non-toxic is not a reason to delay one.

Accuracy and Corrections

I check facts against primary sources and correct errors when they are found, but I do not warrant that every page is complete or current. Sources revise their guidance, accepted botanical names change, and pages here can lag behind. Report anything wrong through the contact page and it gets fixed. Corrections to toxicity listings are handled first.

Affiliate Links and Ads

Links to Other Sites

Care guides link out to extension services, botanic gardens and retailers. Those sites are not mine, their content can change without me noticing, and linking to one is not an endorsement of everything else on it.

The writing, photographs and illustrations on this site are mine unless credited otherwise. You are welcome to quote a passage with a link back. Republishing whole pages is not permitted, and neither is feeding them into a service that reproduces them as its own.

The site is provided as it is. I am not liable for loss or damage arising from following information published here, including the loss of a plant.
